About Tom

Tom offers a warm, genuine, and non-judgemental space where clients can explore what is going on for them at their own pace. He understands that beginning counselling can feel extremely daunting and aims to create a therapeutic relationship where clients feel safe, heard, and accepted.

Tom is a qualified Person-Centred Counsellor working with an integrative approach, drawing on different therapeutic modalities to support each client's individual needs. While Person-Centred Therapy forms the foundation of his work, Tom also draws on approaches including Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, CBT, and Somatic Therapy. He recognises the important connection between the mind and body, and how our experiences can be expressed not only through our thoughts and emotions but also through physical sensations and responses held within the body.

Tom believes that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. By creating a safe and supportive space, clients can develop a deeper understanding of themselves, explore patterns and experiences that may no longer serve them, and discover their own path towards growth and change.

Tom has a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent clients, including those with autism, ADHD, and other visible or invisible disabilities, whether formally diagnosed or self-identified. He recognises that every person's experience is unique and that both diagnosis and self-understanding can be meaningful parts of exploring identity and wellbeing.

Tom understands that discovering or questioning neurodivergence, particularly later in life, can bring a mixture of emotions, including grief, relief, validation, and a greater sense of self-acceptance. Therapy can provide a space to explore these experiences, make sense of the past, and develop a deeper understanding of your needs, values, and the way you want to live your life.

Having worked with adults and children through Dorset Mind, Tom has developed an understanding of the challenges neurodivergent individuals can face, including navigating systems, education, workplaces, and relationships that may not always recognise or accommodate their needs. He appreciates the impact that constantly trying to adapt or fit in can have on confidence, wellbeing, and connection with others.

Tom offers a supportive space to explore your experiences, celebrate your strengths, and work towards greater authenticity, self-awareness, and confidence in being yourself. Through empathy, curiosity, and authenticity, Tom works alongside clients to help them develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and confidence in navigating life's challenges.
