Dr Molly Brimson
About Molly
Molly is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with extensive experience supporting adults and young people experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties. She works full-time within the NHS, providing evidence-based psychological therapy, and alongside this works in private practice. Prior to her NHS role, Molly worked within a specialist charity service supporting adults who had experienced abuse and trauma, and she has further experience within palliative care and bereavement services. Her diverse clinical experience has enabled her to develop a compassionate and nuanced understanding of the factors that can contribute to psychological distress and maintain difficulties over time.
Molly has particular clinical interests in low self-esteem, perfectionism and anxiety disorders, including obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as well as depression and low mood. She draws on evidence-based psychological approaches and works collaboratively with each client, tailoring therapy to their individual needs, circumstances and goals. Molly places particular importance on building a strong therapeutic relationship, offering a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where clients can feel understood and explore difficulties openly. Through therapy, she aims to help clients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, recognise and shift unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour, and develop more adaptive ways of responding to life’s challenges, supporting meaningful and sustainable change.
Therapies offered
Molly works integratively, tailoring therapy to each client's individual needs, circumstances, and goals. She is trained and experienced in a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and draws on these flexibly, guided by an understanding of the individual and the factors contributing to and maintaining their difficulties. Her approach incorporates elements of relational psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT).
Molly recognises that no single therapeutic approach is right for everyone and therefore works collaboratively with her clients to develop an approach that feels both meaningful and helpful. Alongside addressing specific symptoms and difficulties, she emphasises developing a deeper understanding of underlying patterns, relationships, and ways of relating to oneself, supporting clients to make meaningful and sustainable changes.
